Phone at the Koh Samui wedding

A quick guide on what unplugged ceremonies mean and why it’s important to respect the couples wishes.

Here’s to being more present in the moment, watching things through our eyes and not our phones, making

memories and respecting peoples decisions to go phone free at weddings!

There’s a right time and wrong time to capture your images at a wedding and hopefully this guide will help people

understand when the perfect timing is. Education is key! The amount of photos ruined by inconsiderate guests

lunging into the aisle during the kiss, or standing behind the couple during the sparkler shot is unimaginable — it’s

never done out of malice, just lack of awareness….so let’s change that

1.THE COUPLE WANT YOU TO BE PRESENT IN THE MOMENT WITH THEM!

Imagine walking down the aisle in front of all your guests to be greeted by a field of iPhones, imagine not seeing their

faces, their reactions, their joy. They want you to remember the words said, the laughters exchanged and not be

focusing on taking an iPhone snap that you’ll post once and never look at again. If the couple say unplugged this means

PUT YOUR PHONE AWAY AND ENJOY.

2. THEY TRUST THE PHOTOGRAPHER TO CAPTURE THE DAY so THAT YOU CAN ENJOY IT!

If the couple trust the photographer so should you, and despite what you think, iPhones don’t take professional

camera quality images. What they really want from unplugged weddings is for you to enjoy the day Without a

phone in front of your face the Whole time. Switch off from the outside world and just be present.

3. THEY DONT MIND YOU TAKING PHOTOS WHEN THINGS AREN’T HAPPENING

Choose your timing, be mindful that your phone might ruin the couples photos if you get in out during the ceremony,

confetti. first dance etc. During the drinks reception and the meal when the formalities aren’t happening is the

perfect time to grab your snap 0f the couple, a selfie with them and be trigger happy. Also be mindful some couples

want the entire day unplugged so just be sure to check!

4. IT RUINS THEIR PROFESSIONAL PHOTOS THEY’VE SPENT THOUSANDS ON!

We know you’re not doing it to sabotage images and it’s just a lack of education but when your couple say unplugged they mean it

and it applies to all guests. The amount of times during unplugged ceremonies I see guests leaning into the aisle to capture a shot

is unimaginable. Meanwhile the photographer is set up ready to capture the kiss from the perfect angle as you lean in to ruin the entire

composition. Just be mindful, respectful and get your shot when the time is right. They do not want to see your phone in their wedding

photos for the next 60 years
